About Star Sports

My name is Sanawullah Shairzai, founder of Star Sports. My journey began as the only child of a single mother, a refugee who arrived in America with nothing to her name. Through her sacrifices, I learned the values of resilience, hard work, compassion, and character.

Growing up, I always wished for brothers, sisters, and a team I could call my own. Soccer became my passion and my escape. I remember earning spots on teams, only to walk away because my friends hadn't made the cut and I had no transportation. Despite proving myself on the field, I never had the chance to experience being part of a team. I wasn't just missing out on soccer. I was missing out on something every child deserves: a place to belong.

That experience inspired me to become the older brother I once wished I had. I pursued Child Psychology at Hunter College to understand how children think, learn, and grow. It taught me a philosophy I carry into every training session: Before we can teach a child, we must first understand them. Every child is unique, and every child deserves someone who recognizes their potential.

My passion for soccer eventually led me to play at the collegiate and semi-professional levels, competing with clubs that traveled across the country. Today, as a U.S. Soccer Federation-certified coach with over a decade of coaching experience, I take pride in providing professional training that challenges athletes to reach their highest potential.

That's why I founded Star Sports. To combine professional coaching with meaningful mentorship, making high-quality sports programs accessible to families across Queens, Brooklyn, and Long Island through partnerships with schools, masjids, and community organizations.

Whether a child is stepping onto the field for the first time or preparing for competitive soccer, our mission remains the same: to develop confident athletes, strong character, and future leaders. Because the greatest lessons learned through sports extend far beyond the field.

To me, Love the Journey means embracing every challenge, appreciating every sacrifice, and turning life's greatest struggles into opportunities to make a difference.

I started Star Sports for the child I once was. Today, I build it for the leaders our children will become.

Because the greatest legacy we can leave behind isn't a trophy or a championship. It's a generation better than our own.
